Panama City

Panama City, the capital of Panama on the Pacific coast at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal, is one of Latin America's most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities — a skyline of glass towers over a UNESCO World Heritage colonial old town (Casco Viejo), with the extraordinary engineering of the Panama Canal 10 minutes away. The Miraflores Locks Visitor Center at the Canal is outstanding — watching enormous ships transit the lock system from a viewing platform, with an excellent museum explaining the Canal's construction history, is genuinely impressive. Casco Viejo, the colonial old town with its plazas, churches and colourful buildings, has been beautifully restored and is now the city's most vibrant neighbourhood for restaurants and bars. Amador Causeway on the Pacific offers city skyline views. The Soberanía National Park nearby is one of the most accessible wildlife-watching locations in the Americas.
